District Leadership Committee Report

The District Leadership Committee Chair, Michael Rodrigues DTM has completed and finalized the Nominations of District Officers for elections (2017 – 2018). His report is stated below. The election will be held at the District Council Meeting on 27th May 2017, Saturday at 10.15am at the Multi-Purpose Room #02-01, Senja-Cashew Community Club, 101 Bukit Panjang Road, Singapore 679910

Members who meets the eligibility requirement for a role may run from the floor as “floor candidates”.
All candidates, including floor candidates, shall read and follow the procedure as per Protocol 9.0 District Campaigns and Elections, in the Articles of Incorporation of Toastmasters International.

6. Campaign Communications

A. A campaign communication is any message, in any form (such as phone calls, postal mail, email and facsimile) unsolicited by the recipient that promotes or publicizes a candidate.

B. Photographs, audio, video, and electronic representations in all campaign materials and displays, and on the candidate’s website and social networking profiles, related to this campaign may be of the candidate only; no other persons are permitted. All candidates are responsible for obtaining written permission for any quotes and testimonials used in candidate campaign materials and displays, on websites and social networking profiles. Proof of written permission may be requested for review by the district director.

C. Unsolicited subscriptions to information by or about a candidate are not permitted.

D. Communications by the district in connection with a candidate’s presentation at a district conference, and internal communication among campaign team members, are not considered campaign communications.

E.The district director provides contact information to nominated candidates and floor candidates only after receiving their Officer Agreement and Release Statement.

I. Only district council members’ contact information is provided.

II. The contact information may only be used for campaign purposes.

F. District candidates shall only send two campaign communications. These communications may only be sent to members of the district council:

I. The first communication may be sent between January 1 and March 31.

II. The second communication may be sent between the announcement of the DLC results and the district council’s annual meeting.

G. Candidates may have a website and use social media to promote their candidacy. No district or club social media sites or websites may be used to promote any individual candidate. District and club websites may list the nominated candidates.

H. Candidates are prohibited from participating in Toastmasters-related discussion groups on websites, including social networking sites, for campaign purposes.

I. District candidates may use the Toastmasters trademarks, including the logo and the names “Toastmasters” and “Toastmasters International,” on printed and electronic campaign materials, websites and social media sites. Use of the trademarks on any other items requires the written permission of the Chief Executive Officer.

J. Candidates may not produce or distribute any wearable campaign items (such as buttons, pins, hats, sashes, apparel, etc.).

K.At district conferences and district non-election meetings (such as area and division speech contests), nominated candidates and floor candidates may only distribute and display campaign materials in the Candidates’ Corner (if there is a Candidates’ Corner). Candidates or their representatives are responsible for the delivery, set-up, and removal of materials.

L. At district non-election meetings (such as area and division speech contests), candidates may be introduced as long as all candidates present are introduced.

M. Candidates may not host hospitality suites at any district event or contribute to a district hospitality suite. A hospitality suite is defined as a room where refreshments are provided and attendance is open to any member.

N. District officer candidates may speak and give educational presentations at district conferences, at a time other than during the district council’s annual meeting, at the discretion of the district director.

I. All candidates must receive equal opportunity.

II. The time, place, and length of presentation are identified by the district director.

O. Candidates may not present campaign speeches at any district non-election meeting, or campaign at any club meetings.

P.Advertisements in district publications, such as in newsletters, in conference programs, or on websites, by or on behalf of candidates for district office are not permitted.

The names of floor candidates are not published with the DLC report or in any other district publication.

Let’s End The Term With a Bang

Dear Members,

there are so much to do for the next 3 months. Whilst we will be kept busy attending to these events, I’m sure our excitement levels too will be on the rise in eager anticipation over the activities to come.

Business Meetings

The FUN conference starts with our final business meetings:

The 3rd DEC will be held from 9.00am to 10.30am

The 2nd DCM will be held from 10.30am to 1.30pm.

Please do take note that the DEC is organized for Senior Officers, Divisions and Areas Directors.

The DCM is organized for Senior Officers, Divisions and Areas Directors, Club Presidents and Vice-Presidents of Education.

Please mark these dates down on your calendars and attend these sessions, which are absolutely free!

The District will send out the official notices to office bearers by April 27, 2017 .

Membership Growth / Speechcraft Program

As of March 2017, our membership growth continues to be healthy.

We are indeed fortunate that our clubs are working tirelessly to attract, recruit and retain members through tried and tested programs such as Speechcraft.

In this note, I’d like to share that I had the privilege to attend a Speechcraft program organized for ANZ TMC and headed by the Club President, Mohamad Saddiq. It was indeed an enlightening, engaging and effective session. We also had the pleasure of having Marshall from Star Millennium Advanced TMC who was busily recording his observations, takeaways and insights on the meeting. He had adopted this habit so that he could share his experiences with other club members on the excitement of the meetings. He has not only developed his own style of recording his observations but he has come to be well known for his sharing of meetings that it has become his personal branding as well as something his club is able to offer as a added value to other members.

Club Growth

Our Divisions Directors have been working tirelessly towards achieving the President Distinguished Division status. As such, each and every Division Director and their teams have been working doubly hard in leadership training, growing their clubs and following up on new club leads.

As a Division, we have been meeting monthly as well as hosting one-on-one discussions where we felt it would be more immediate, productive and necessary to do so. Your District Trio has also been closely liaising with club leadership in tackling their challenges, mitigating issues and inspiring them as necessary.

With just under 3 months to go, we are ready to leave a legacy for our successors and we want this leadership experience to be one of the proudest moments in our Toastmasters journey.

Membership Renewal

It’s that time of the year when we get to renew our TM memberships. Please do so as early as possible to avoid the inevitable last minute rush, which occurs annually. Our CGD team member, Chee Kim Loon and his team have been earnest in sending you email reminders. Please do check that your email addresses are up to date so that you’ll receive the membership renewal notice.

As of March 28, 2017, only 124 out of 229 clubs (54.1%) have submitted dues.

Congratulations to all clubs in areas B1 & B5, L2, T1, Z3 and Z4 for your early submission. Well Done.

DCP Goals

Congratulations everyone! Educational Goals are healthy. Please see PQD’s reports. Remember, to qualify for Distinguished Club Status and above, you will need a charter strength of 20 members or a net growth of 5 new members.

Personal Growth and Development

Work on your projects and complete your CCs and CLs. Do Look towards aligning your personal TM goals with your club’s for then you’ll be contributing even more substantively to your club’s successes. Keep on working towards your personal TM goals and feel the sense of satisfaction when you accomplish your personal as well as club goals.

As in every strong speech, you want to end it with a bang. Let’s make ours the strongest term yet and as a team united, let’s end the term with a bang too.

80区域将在 27/4之前发出公函通知各职务人员。

增添会员/口才训练课程

直至2017年3月, 我们会员人数的增长率是稳健的。

我们感到欣慰的是各分会都卯尽全力,在力所能及的范围内吸收新会员及保存旧有的会员。口才训练课程的推行, 在这两方面都带来不错的收效。

在这当儿,我将为大家分享我参加由ANZ TMC 会长Mohamad Saddiq 所主持的口才训练课程的经验。那真是一个具启发性、参与性、效率性强的会议。Star Millennium Advanced TMC 的会员Marshall 也忙碌地记录下会议时他所看到的情况、学习到的知识、以及见识到的智慧。为了能与没有出席会议的会友们分享他的学习过程, 他经常记录下他的学习经验。他这种独特的记录所见所闻的方式,不但使他在会友群中脱颖而出,更形成他的品牌。他在例会中分享的学习经验,为参加他的分会的会友增值。

 创立新会

我们的区总监们正在不辞劳苦地向会长级区的目标努力迈进。每一个分区也与他们的团队纷纷举办领袖训练课程、增添新会员的计划、跟进创会的线脉。

作为一个区域,我们除了每月的例常会议外,当有需要,急不容缓、成效较高时,我们也进行1 对1 的会议。我们3位 经常与分会领袖一起商讨如何解决困难、如何面对挑战及如何鼓舞起会友们的士气。

我们离卸任时刻只有3个月。我们要使这领袖经验成为我们讲演历程中的最骄傲的时刻。 这也是我们留给接班人最宝贵的资产。

缴交会费

这又是缴交会费的时刻了。请早日为会员们呈交会费,避免像每年在最后猛冲时所造成的窘境。市场拓展小组的Chee Kim Loon及他的队友正在不断寄出电邮,提醒各位有呈交会费。请大家查阅邮址是否正确无误,以便顺利收到有关缴交会费的通知。

截至3月28日, 我们229个分会中只有124个分会(54.1%)已经上缴会费。 已经上缴会费的分区有:B1B5分区、L2分区,T1分区、Z3分区及Z4分区。 这是值得祝贺的。

卓越讲演会计划目标

我们的教育目标是健康的,这是值得恭贺的一件事。请参阅教育与培训总监的报告。请留意,成为卓越分会的先决条件是必须达到至少20位会员,或是净添5位新会员。

个人发展及成长

努力地完成胜任沟通员及胜任领袖。请将个人的发展与分会的进展挂钩。那你就可以为分会的成就给力。当你达成个人目标,同时也协助分会达成目标时,那种欣慰及喜悦,将是难以忘怀的。

每个精彩的演说都必须有强有力的结束语。让我们成为目前最强及最团结的组合! 同样的,让我们在本年度结束时,给予最强、大力度的震撼。

Let Us Work Together To Scale Greater Heights

Program Quality Director’s Message

We are in the last lapse to achieve what we set out to achieve at the beginning of the current program year.

As of 22 March 2017, 95 clubs have attained 5 or more than 5 DCP goals to qualify as distinguished clubs as shown in the following list. Congratulations and applause go to the 12 clubs that have attained a perfect score.

However, there are a couple of clubs in the list that fall short in terms of membership strength. These clubs have to strengthen their membership strength to 20, or ensure there is a net growth of 5 members with respect to the membership base, in order to seal their status as distinguished clubs.

There is a significant number of clubs that have attained 4 or 3 DCP goals (not listed here) goals, just short of 1 or 2 DCP goals to be distinguished. I strongly urge these clubs to fulfill the remaining goals in their best effort as soon as possible.

I have no doubt that District 80 will be able to qualify as a distinguished district in terms of the number of distinguished clubs. Let us work together to scale greater heights.

亲爱的的会友们,我们已经快到达我们今年度的终点站了。

截至3月22日止,我们已经有95个分会(上列)完成了至少5个卓越讲演会目标,其中有12个分会完成了满分10个目标,可喜可贺。

我们必须关注的是上列95个分会中,有数个分会的会员人数并不达标。希望这些分会能尽快招收更多的会员,满足至少20位会员或净增5位会员的要求,成为卓越讲演分会。

我们也有一些分会已经完成了3 或4个目标,离卓越讲演分会只是一步之遥;希望这些分会能做最后冲刺,尽早完成剩余的目标,能获得卓越讲演分会的荣衔。

我对80区域能达到卓越区域(单就卓越讲演分会数目)的目标,充满信心。希望大家都能互相勉励,更努力冲刺,达到更高的成就。

Area Directors 2017-2018 Candidate Application

With reference to District Leadership Handbook, page 38.
1. District 80 follows TI recommendation that District Directors appoint Area Directors.

2. ADs are eligible for re-election or re-appointment for one succeeding term only

3. Ideally, ADs have served as members of a district council (Club President, VPE or District Officer)

4. All district officers must be active individual members of member clubs and must be in good standing with Toastmasters International under Article III, Section 8 of the Bylaws of Toastmasters International.

6. District Director, Patricia Lum, DTM is maintaining a register of all members interested to serve as AD for the ensuing term. As such please forward the paper work to her directly.

Submission requirement:
1) Complete the Officer Agreement and Release Form (one page); Officer position : Area Director. Please indicate the Area and Division that you would like to serve, remember to sign.

亲爱的讲演会同好:

从我们收到的面簿及whatsapp的讯息中,各位肯定度过了一个愉悦的岁末假期。我们在应得的休假中,自我放松、充电、探讨新的途径及机会。

Program Quality Director’s 2017 Message

Tempus fugit, and we are already six months into our current program year.

As of 30 November 2016, we have awarded 170 CCs, 30 ACBs, 10 ACSs, 11 ACGs, 77 CLs, 43 ALBs, 18 ALSs, 15 Leadership Excellence Awards and 19 DTMs. That’s a total of 393 education/leadership awards, of which there are 19 Triple Crown Award winners. Congratulations to all the award achievers.

With the imminent roll-out of Toastmasters Pathways, our education system will be revamped, and there will be a completely different education/leadership achievement recognition scheme. The existing recognition scheme will be terminated after the transition period to the new scheme, and education/leadership awards will not be transferable to the new scheme. Members are urged to put in their best effort to attain the highest education/leadership awards before the termination of the existing recognition scheme. Its wonderful that you are enjoying a merry Year-End holiday judging from the many messages on Facebook and Whatsapp groups we had the pleasure of receiving.  Our well-deserved rest gave us a chance to recharge, relax and explore new avenues and challenges.

We are excited as 2017 is upon us. That is to say we have travelled one more time round the sun. Isn’t that a marvelous wonder?  With the New Year around the corner we have many things to be thankful for in 2016. We are thankful for what we have learnt and the wonderful friendships we have forged. Amongst these blessings we are thankful for the fulfilling journeys we enjoyed with Toastmasters.
